Abstract:
There is no one coherent view of Knowledge Management in the United States, let alone in the world. This presentation will highlight different approaches and emphases to KM in the United States, based in part on different professional associations and various job advertisements found on internet job recruitment sites. Despite these differences, the presentation will suggest some of the key ideas and notions that are the foundation of the online Master of Science program with a concentration in knowledge management at Kent State University. Key ideas include: intellectual capital, human capital, enterprise or structural capital, and customer capital. Other keys ideas are the role business intelligence and competitive intelligence in knowledge management; and expertise management to ease knowledge bottlenecks. This framework will be followed by an overview of the online knowledge management program at Kent State University.
